So over the holidays we decided that we would try to train Brandon to sleep on his own so that he wouldn't need us to rock/feed him in the middle of the night.
We would put him in his crib while he was awake and try to get him to lay down. Instead he would flip over, stand in the corner, and begin crying towards the doors for us. Below is an example of where he would be crying. We actually had to lower the bed after this was taken because he began hooking his arm on the corner to stand up and would fall asleep that way.

We would go in to let him know we were still in the apartment in different increments - 5 min, 7 min, 10 min, etc. Every day it would be longer increments.
The first three nights were the worst. He ended up crying for about an hour for these three nights. Then it suddenly became easier. The fourth night he slept after 10 min. and then the fifth night he fell asleep in 5 min. in a little heap at the top of his bed. Below is a photo of him after he had fallen asleep. Good thing babies are flexible!

It has only gotten easier and he always sleeps through the night. I think he gets a little sleepier now though because he sleeps 9.5 hours instead of the 10.5 he used to, but according to sleep expert Richard Ferber, he is getting enough sleep as long as he naps during the day.
Hopefully this keeps up!
